Over half of Lubuskie's territory is covered by forests owned by the state. Areas of exceptional natural interest constitute as much as 37% of the region, with the most precious of them including over 50 nature reserves and 7 landscape parks, among others at the Warta estuary, near Pszczew, Lagów and Gryzno. Parts of the northern territory of the region belong to Drawienski National Park. Lubuskie offers excellent conditions for walking, horse riding, cycling (particularly in Sulecin and its area), sailing, canoeing, diving, fishing and hunting. The last few years have seen the growth of the popularity of agrotourism. People in the countryside prepare their farms for tourists, offering not only accommodation but more often also food. Some of the farms provide additional attractions such as e.g. horse riding facilities. These and other regional assets are still underused, although many tourists from all over Poland got to like Lubuskie region and come to spend their holidays here every year. Its geographical position and the proximity to Germany open it up for the tourists from the other side of the border who begin to visit the area more and more frequently.

Historical monuments and cultural heritage.

The most exceptional monument of the engineering and construction art is the Miedzyrzec Fortified Area, the network of fortifications built (although not finished) at the turn of the 30ties and 40ties of last century. It belongs to the group of the most interesting buildings of this kind in Poland. This complex is of an interest not only to the admirers of the war history and technology because of the colonies of bats living in its corridors under the ground (Nietoperek reserve). The Gothic cathedral in Gorzów Wielkopolski built at the turn of the 13th and 14th century is the most popular among the numerous monuments of the sacred architecture. It is also the symbol of the town. One should also mention the granary with its framework built at the end of the 18th century. Nowadays, it houses various museum collections. The church of St. Mary´s Asscention in Klepsk from the beginning of the 14th century is perhaps less popular but also very interesting. It was taken over by the Lutherans in the 16th century which can be seen from the frescoes. The complex of the Augustian postmonastery buildings in Zagan is known for its magnificent interiors and valuable library. While in Zagan, one should also see the Wallenstein castle. Zielona Góra is famous for its classical town hall with Gothic origins and St. Jadwiga´s church.
